Exploration: ALT club
Nazneen Ayyub-Wood, artist in residence, is a multi disciplinary artist whose work explores how spaces, objects, and identities can change and be reimagined. Her practice is driven by ideas and shaped by personal experiences, using everyday materials and found objects to create playful, thought-provoking installations and performances. Nazneen is particularly interested in how humans interact with their environment, reflecting on ecological concerns, sustainability, and the emotional impact of climate change. Her work invites viewers to reconsider their assumptions and engage more consciously with the world around them. By inviting viewers to engage with her work in unexpected ways, she encourages them to question what they see and how they relate to current environmental issues.
ALT club became the vehicle for this residency supporting young artists, Ava, Maud, Blessing, Maxima, Davida, Alyssa, Zaidat and Nana to explore and produce a series of alternate realities reimagining new ways to co-exist with plant and animal species. Using the premise of the Umwelt – the German word for ‘environment’ – defined by Baltic-German Zoologist Jakob von Uexhill. Alt Club members have explored the perceptual world of animals by initially processing and exploring within their own Umwelt.

Both Roosting and Animal Farm 2 manifested from maind mapping sessions using the fortune teller and research undertaken during Alt Club. The young artists explored aspects of what an animal Umwelten involved and the encounters that they developed served as a mirror to our own Umwelten.
