Exploration: Au milieu des bureaux empliés (In Between Desks)
Au milieu des bureaux empilés (In between desks) is an extensive project through which Anouk created conversational spaces for students to to exchange their experiences and rethink the education system. Since the beginning of the project, more than a hundred students from thirteen high schools in Canada, Switzerland and the UK took part. Meeting weekly, each conversation started with everyone listening to a few conversation excerpts recorded in other school and countries. With these foreign words becoming a starting point for the exchanges, students from different communities built together an ever growing archive of interlacing ideas.
The subsequent weeks followed a pattern of listening to recordings of the previous weeks conversations where students would then draw an abstract representation of the exchanges that took place. Each student developing their own protocol according to what aspect of dialogue was most significant to them: listening, speaking fine, silences, laughter etc. these drawings then helped the students to become more attentive to how the group was communicating and helped them to develop a collective sense of care.

The images below are from the Peckham Festival 2022, where the conversation drawings created by the students of HGAED and Anouk were displayed on a wooden structure that reproduced the architecture of Anouk's studio where they met each week. Visitors to the exhibition were invited to sit and contemplate the students work whilst listening to their conversations on head phones.
Developing practice research with HGAED artists
As with all the artist in residencies, HGAED artists develop their own research practices alongside the work of the artist. This year our year 13 artists developed workshops inspired by Anouk's creative methods which were shared at the Peckham Festival. After participating in Anouk's project they explored the ways in which Anouk supported conversations and creative practices to enable opportunities for people to come together and share their ideas.
