The Need for Fantasy

Films are and will remain an important part of our lives. Personally, I believe the fantasy genre is the most important among the cinematic genres. Fantasy films gives audiences an escape from reality allowing them to immersive themselves in a world nothing like our own. This escapism is a source of happiness offering a break from ordinary daily life. Furthermore, Iconic fantasy films have a lasting cultural impact influencing art, pop culture and much more. Characters and quotes from fantasy films for instance Harry Potter, Wizard of Oz and E.T has become ingrained in the collective conscience. Throughout my life fantasy films has been a source of comfort and has helped develop my creativity. The reason for this workshop was to remind everyone why fantasy films is one of the most important mediums in our lives.
For my workshop, I began by asking everyone the question “Why do you think fantasy Films are still important in 2023?” After mind mapping their opinions we had a discussion about this. The main task of the workshop was for everyone to create a fantasy themed collage using magazines and fantasy film posters. Through this activity people were able to use the magazines to tailor the fantasy genre to contemporary issues. My workshop overall reminded the community of the significance of fantasy films and the need for escapism in the modern world.
