This session was led by artist Ben Nugent. Ben has an experimental practice, working with various drawing tools to create vivid images of city life. The subject of his pieces exist in a state between the figurative and the abstract, bright intense colours depict scenes which often have underlying, darker meanings. For the Hairytage project, Ben took a series of stills from Alix's film, Hairytage, which he edited and overlayed with painted cultural signifiers. The sense of the depth and vibrancy of the community is sensed through his use of shape, line and colour. The fluidity of his marks, which seep out to the unfinished edges, suggests the changing community that are represented in the images.
For this workshop, students worked with Ben to reimagine the Autograph archive through line, shape and colour.
