Hair and Identity

Hair is a creative medium through which we express ourselves sometimes even unconsciously. Not only is it a physical representation of our daily patterns, life experiences and cultures, it's a part of our identity. I wanted to explore these ideas with the wider community to include other people's emotions, opinions and beliefs around the politics of hair. I wanted to use random everyday materials, that at first glance may not have any links to hair, to remove any perceptions of what drawing hair should be. The collaboration provoked conversations around personal experiences of hair and encouraged people to combine personal representations of hair through artistic methods. Coming together to create one head of hair that’s open to many interpretations, and represents our whole community.
