Exploring the Impact of Plastic Pollution

Nature is a diverse and interconnected system of living organisms and landscapes on Earth. It encompasses everything from majestic mountains and lush forests, to microscopic organisms and dynamic weather patterns on land. From colourful coral reefs infused with life, to the mysterious depths of our oceans inhabited by creatures adapted to exist in these extreme conditions. All of these eco systems showcasing the beauty and complexity of our planet. Nature is a home to millions of creatures. I'm exploring how nature is being affected by humans, and the impact of human-made pollution which is resulting in the reduction of out natural world. Throughout the years, I have always heard the news about the climate crisis and human environmental disruptions, but I am particularly distressed about the impact of pollution on sea life after seeing the news about the Fukushima power plant disaster in Japan, when radioactive water was released into the ocean.
For this workshop, I used the process of making an origami fish as a metaphor to represent the effort we need to put into this crisis. Origami is difficult, it takes time and precision. As we made the fish I asked questions to raise awareness of sea life pollution. The facts not being widely known are very shocking. I wanted to find out what the community knew about this crisis and what they thought should be done.
