Ways of Seeing
Noa Ekundayo
In my practice I am interested in how people react differently to every situation and how we all read life through different perspectives. On a recent trip to The National Gallery, I was interested to see if the security guard based in one of the rooms was drawn to the same paintings that caught my eye. Interestingly, the painting that I assumed would stand out to most visitors, was not the one that this man chose. In order to explore his perspective I chose to draw from his painting selection rather than my own. In my workshop I wanted to further develop these ideas and asked the participants to respond to the same painting, using the same materials to see how our viewpoints differ. I asked each person to respond to a painting by making a flower using Fimo. I hoped to demonstrated through collaboration, that although we all see the same environment, we all interpret it in multiple ways, and these different ways of seeing offer more interesting ways of seeing the world.
