Exploring Disaster
Rabtha Ahmed
In my workshop 'Exploring Disaster', I asked the community to contribute to a collective map. With severe floods consuming a third of Pakistan, as a British-Pakistani, I am interested in exploring the theme of disaster in my work. Currently, there's a lack of conversation in Western media on the excessive flooding in Pakistan - with extreme floods also having happened to neighbouring countries, Bangladesh ad India. I wanted to address this lack of conversation by sharing my experiences with an audience and ask them to reflect on their personal histories by drawing their favourite place in the UK. I also consider how the hypocrisy that manifests within Eurocentrism could be considered one of the key reasons why this humanitarian crisis isn't being treated with more importance. I also want to explore the importance of raising awareness and representation between different communities and how this could develop deeper understanding of global communities.
